Digital Accessibility for New Faculty Orientation (NFO)

  • Co-led a comprehensive digital accessibility (DA) overhaul of the Michigan Engineering NFO Canvas course. We remediated over 120 files to meet federal accessibility standards.
  • Collaborated on grant application to receive College of Engineering funding for the project.
  • Managed project initiation, planning, and tracking, including systematic review and update of all course materials.
  • Led outreach to external contributors, ensuring their materials met accessibility requirements through dedicated project documentation to track our progress.
  • Interviewed and onboarded a program assistant; supervised training and task assignments to support their role in DA remediation.
  • Updated 95% of course content and supported our team in developing content for three modules, advancing toward full accessibility compliance by the December grant deadline.
  • Demonstrated full-cycle project management, stakeholder engagement, and process improvement, leading to significant enhancements in accessibility and user experience for new faculty.

Project Lead – Albion-Marshall Resilient Communities Project, Starr Commonwealth

Across a two-year grant cycle and in collaboration with a seven-person steering committee, I led the coordination and expansion of a multi-faceted community engagement initiative focused on advancing racial equity, social justice, and public education in the communities of Albion and Marshall, Michigan. The project’s core objective was to bridge divides and foster dialogue following the annexation of the two public school districts, as well as to build sustained community engagement through shared learning and storytelling.

Key responsibilities and highlights included:

  • Co-created and supported facilitation for an interactive series of community events including critical conversations, book discussions, film screenings, cookouts, and field trips. We engaged 120+ residents and stakeholders, fostering dialogue on equity, while establishing and strengthening cross-community connections.
  • Coordinated filmed storytelling series, ‘A Common Thread’ – a mini-documentary that premiered at the 2019 Wolf Tree Film Festival and inspired regional dialogue. This included fostering relationships to authentically capture local perspectives, finding venues, and managing production logistics for interviews.
  • Organized resident participation in The New York Public Theater’s Midwest tour of ‘Sweat’ and Story Circle training and events, highlighting regional experiences and opening opportunities for healing within community storytelling.
  • Co-developed and led the orchestration of Albion’s first Financial Empowerment Fair, ‘Own It!,’ partnering with 14 regional organizations to provide asset-building resources to 100+ residents.
  • Created tailored written and digital communications – including press, website, and social media content – to increase project visibility, while building connections with local businesses and organizations to expand outreach and engagement.
  • Participating in multiple seminars, workshops, and learning firsthand from ongoing conversations with my neighbors about how social injustices shape the quality of life in my community.
